Happy Friday Elio’ers! We hope you had a productive work week and gearing up for a 3-day weekend. We’ll still be working on Monday, but we hope that those of you that can stay home from work or school enjoy the day!
At least once a day, we are asked what kind of people will buy the Elio. The short answer, of course, is everybody. The longer answer is that we think the Elio will appeal to all kinds of segments, like commuters, environmentalists, people that like to save money and folks that like to put America first. Another segment that we believe will be attracted to the Elio can be often overlooked: first-time drivers and teenagers.
The teenage demographic is interesting to us on many fronts. First, teenagers tend to drive new trends and significantly change industries. Also, on a personal level, many on the Elio team have children that are in their teens and about to become drivers. While this can be stressful for parents, we think that the Elio is an ideal vehicle for teenagers for teenagers and first-time drivers.
Remember your first car? If you were like most of us, you considered yourself incredibly lucky if you had the chance to drive mom’s old beat up clunker. If mom needed her jalopy, you had to save up and buy a used car. If you’re a teenager today, you’ll need a pretty big piggy bank, because the average used car now costs about $19,000. When you also factor in gas savings, our low price is no doubt very attractive to both teenagers and their parents.
While driving for the first time is a thrill for teenagers, it’s absolutely terrifying for everyone else, especially parents. The Elio comes standard with the Elio Safety Management System (ESMS,) which includes three airbags, seatbelts, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, and a unibody frame. Eliminating distractions is also essential for first-time drivers. In some states, new drivers are not allowed to have a passenger under 18 for the first 6 months. Our front-to-back configuration easily eliminates the distractions of a passenger.
If like many of us, you had an ancient clunker as your first car, you probably spent quite a bit of time on the side of the road waiting for a jump start or a tow. These clunkers could also be pretty hard on your wallet during multiple trips to the mechanic. Not only is the Elio less expensive than the average used car, it is also a brand new vehicle and comes with a standard 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. In the Elio, teenagers will have to come up with a better excuse for being late than “my car wouldn’t start.”
Thanks for your support and have a spectacular weekend!
