Happy Friday Elio’ers! April 15th is usually a mad scramble to the post office, but procrastinators across the country can rejoice, because this year tax returns aren’t due until Monday the 18th! This gives you a full 3 days to goof off before you have to get your return in before the deadline.
Here are some fun Tax Day facts:
While April 15th is commonly known as Tax Day, the actual “holiday” won’t fall on April 15th again until 2019. Depending on how you look at it, this is either great news or bad news for procrastinators.
Tax Freedom Day, or the day when the country has made enough money to pay the tax bill for the year, falls on April 24th this year. Americans will pay a whopping $3.3 trillion in federal taxes and an additional $1.6 trillion in state and local taxes. According to the Tax Foundation, Americans will spend more money on taxes than food, clothing, and housing- combined.
Luckily, not all of that hard earned money is gone forever. By February 26th of this year, $125 billion had been returned to taxpayers. About 83 percent of taxpayers can expect to receive a refund, with the average return amounting to $3,120!
Tax Day is an interesting event. For one, almost no one likes filling out tedious paperwork (thank goodness for accountants!) While it can be a dull process, many of us will see our hard earned money coming back in the way of a refund check. What will you do with your refund? Some of us will want to go on a shopping spree, some will want to pay off debt, and hopefully some of us will put some money away for a rainy day.
If last year is any indication, future Elio Motors customers really like Tax Day. We know what you’re thinking, and no, they don’t work for the IRS. Last year, many used their refund check to finally make their long-awaited reservation for their Elio. A ton of folks who already had a reservation used their refund to upgrade their reservation, some finally getting to the top spot and a coveted Spot in Line. Others told us that they were putting their refund checks aside so they can pay off their Elio once their number is called. Based on the emails we’ve received this year, many people are excited to do the same this year!
Speaking of taxes, the Elio represents tax savings in a couple of major ways. For one, the low base price of the Elio can save a ton in the way of new vehicle taxes. The tax savings don’t stop there- the average US fuel tax is about 50 cents per gallon. Even with low gas prices, the Elio continues to save!
