Elio Motors Tour goes to Portland and Detroit

Hello Elio’ers!  This past weekend we made a quick stop in Portland, OR and showed off the P4 at the Hilton Garden Inn hotel.  We will be back to the area after Labor Day for a full weekend event, but in the meantime, it was nice to see our northwestern friends even if for a short while.  Take a look at one of our reservation holders who brought his current ride to meet his future one…

As much as we love Oregon, we were excited to get on the road and head to where else? The Motor City. We have a big week coming up. Paul and the Elio team will be hosting a two-day Supplier Summit. Our “Supplier Summits” allow our suppliers to work closely together to develop cost effective design and manufacturing solutions. Ultimately, this structure helps control costs, quality and is one of the main answers to the common question, “how can you make a vehicle for $6,800?”

“As a budding engineer I was designing a bracket for a seat. I discovered I could save something like a half a pound and a dollar if the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) moved their bolt hole over one inch. I brought them in… showed them the savings they could gain if they moved their bolt hole and they said, ‘No. The bolt hole stays where it is, make it work.’… Instead of optimizing on the vehicle which is what the customer cares about, they optimized on sub-systems and kept those delineations very rigid.” – Paul Elio, Founder and CEO, Elio Motors

This upcoming Supplier Summit is that of particular importance. When Forbes contributor Devin Thorpe asked about the start of production on a recent podcast, Paul explained, “Now that the funding picture is getting much clearer with this Reg A+ success, we are ready to finalize the timeline. So, one of the biggest missions at the Suppler Summit next week is to begin that process.”

Following the Supplier Summit, Elio Motors will be making our third appearance at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, Michigan.  According to their site, it is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe—from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Japan and the former Soviet Union.  We’ll be at 31200 Woodward Ave, repping American innovation.
