Nothing beats a cool, crisp Autumn morning in Flint, Michigan. What’s better than a visit to the Farmers market for seasonal goodies like cider, donuts and a pumpkin colored Elio? Yum! These “pop-up” events are always a fun surprise for futureliowners, but it also reflected a purposeful show of support as explained by Elio Motors Vice President of Government Affairs, Joel Sheltrown:
“It should be noted that Flint has been hurt by the closing of motor vehicle plants over the last several years. During Flint’s heyday, 29,000+ employees worked at Buick City, a 235-acre manufacturing site. In 1999, Buick City closed and all those jobs are now gone. More recently, the city was crippled by the Flint Water Crisis. Elio Motors wanted to express support for Flint residents and our reservation holders that live in the area. The message? To let them know that at least one motor vehicle manufacturer is insisting on creating U.S. job by keeping the manufacturing jobs right here in the good ‘ole USA. Already, Elio Motors has approximately 40 Michigan automotive suppliers furnishing components or engineering support for our autocycle. It was important to show how Flint can benefit from Elio Motors’ strong commitment to targeting utilization of 90% North American content.”
We had a number of dignitaries stop by, including Congressman Dan Kildee, who joined the mix of other curious folks getting familiar with the Elio. Here are just a few of the many friendly faces that stopped by to see us as well:
