This Stop – Saint Francis University and the Supplier Summit!
Hello Elio’ers! Because we had several new announcements last week, we thought we would hold off on last week’s tour blog news and combine it with this one. As mentioned in our previous post, we visited Saint Francis University in central Pennsylvania. The tour team displayed the P4 around campus and Paul Elio made a speech as part of their annual Dr. Albert Zanzuccki Endowed Chair in Business Lecture Series. We then headed straight to Michigan for a Supplier Summit, where all of our suppliers were updated on the Elio project.
We received such a warm welcome at Saint Francis. Kent Tonkin, a teacher at the University and an Elio enthusiast, recruited and hosted us for the event. Elio’ers from all over the region including Maryland, Virginia and Ohio (not just students) made the trip to see the Elio first hand and hear Paul present. Steve C. (pictured below with Paul) has six reservations and came all the way from Minneapolis to try on the P4. That’s over 900 miles or 15 hours away! Besides our outdoor display, Paul Elio and Vice President of Sales Jerome Vassallo visited classrooms to tell of the project and provide some inspiration to young minds. This proved to be especially beneficial to one of the students who participates in a car club and has even built electric and hybrid vehicles. They visited classes such as science, advertising, e-commerce, and history – fittingly since the Elio should be involved in all of those subjects!

Paul presented at the John F. Kennedy Student Center later that evening. He covered a wide-range of topics from how the Elio project started, to our supplier base, to challenges along the way and answered questions from the audience at the end. Here is a 15 second excerpt addressing our view on perpetual motion which can be seen on the Elio Instagram page. To see a full explanation on the Elio vs. Perpetual motion, visit our video gallery.

Next, it was off to Michigan for a Supplier Summit. Our Supplier Summit series is one of the many ways Elio Motors approaches the business model so differently. The vast majority of automobile manufacturers compartmentalize their efforts and teams. We understand the value of getting all of our suppliers together to collaborate. The result is that the most optimal solutions are identified to reach our four “Must Haves” — high mileage, low cost, American-made, and top safety standards. The purpose of this specific summit was to serve as a progress update given the number of milestones achieved most recently. Paul gave a general team update including our legislative successes, Kody Klindt, Project Development Director/Powertrain System for IAV, walked the team through the process of putting the engine on the dynamometer for the first time. Board member, Stu Lichter, also presented on the additional funding strategy released last week: read it here.
