Hello Elio’ers!  The P4 was on display this weekend at the Smithsonian as part of “ The Future is Here” festival; a four-day event highlighting some of the most advanced thinking in science, technology and engineering from an array of experts, visionaries and noted science-lovers.

The Elio was among the world’s first real hoverboard (yes, Back to the Future style) and other impressive technological innovations like IBM’s Watson and an exoskeleton.  Yet among all of this greatness, the Elio equally made an impact because of the ingenious way we are reengineering existing technology into a simplistic yet innovative designed vehicle that is practical for all to own based on its low price point and high mileage.  Of course all appreciated the fact that after just five years of sales, we can reduce total U.S. gas consumption by .35 percent.  That changes our carbon footprint and that significantly reduces our dependence on foreign oil.

Next, we held an event for the general public not too far from D.C. in Greenbelt, MD.  We met futureliowner, Mike, who holds one of the lowest reservation numbers we’ve seen on tour: #267.  Mike drives one hundred miles roundtrip every day to his job at the University of Maryland (Go Terps!).  He first heard of the Elio from an early press release on CNBC in 2013 and jumped in right away.  Mike says his wife was shocked to learn he had made a reservation because he’s such a conservative guy.  At the time, Mike was a private pilot and thought the concept just made solid sense.  Plus, he thought the tandem seating was cool and says “you can’t beat the price and mileage!”
