Happy Friday Elio’ers! Whether your candidate won or lost on Tuesday, we can all rejoice at the fact that the 2016 Presidential Election is finally over. If you’ve been avoiding social media, TV, and your mailman, we can’t say we blame you. For many months, we’ve all been bombarded with endless mailings, provocative TV commercials, and general divisiveness. The entire election season felt way too long, but we finally reached the finish line. Hopefully, we can return to our normal lives and come together as a country.
There is one issue that may not have been the most talked about this election season, but it is one that we at Elio Motors care about deeply. Today is Veteran’s Day, which is defined by the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs as “A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.” Today is a day that should fill all Americans with a sense of gratitude and sincere appreciation.
The first Veteran’s Day in 1919 was known as Armistice Day and was started as a way of recognizing the profound sacrifice of the brave men and women who fought valiantly in World War I. As the years passed, the name of the holiday was changed to Veteran’s Day to include all veterans. Today, Veteran’s Day is a celebration of the more than 21 million veterans of the United States.
Veteran’s Day is much more than just a federal holiday and a day off for some of us. It is a day that lets all of us reflect on the sacrifice that our veterans make each and every day. Some have made the ultimate sacrifice, and some continue to make sacrifices through their service today. Today, we offer our gratitude to everyone who has ever defended our country.
Remember the famous quote “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” For many, these are just words. For veterans, they take these words to heart and walk the talk. Veterans are representative of the very best that our country has to offer.
Veterans put America first, and we cannot thank them enough for that. For our part, we try to follow the lead of veterans and put America first by producing an American made vehicle and as a result create American jobs.
Today, across the country, countless parades and celebrations will be held to recognize and honor the veterans of the United States Armed Services. While today is truly a great day to show our thanks, we as a country should make a concerted effort to celebrate the lives and efforts of our nation’s veterans not just once a year, but every day of the year. Through their service, veterans have served and protected their country.
To all of our veterans, from Elio Motors, a sincere thank you for your service.
